THOUGHTS: MAKE-UP AND SELF LOVE

MUA Jane Begger

Have you noticed how many girls apologise for “not wearing make-up” and “looking disgusting”?

That sounds ridiculous, right? But somehow, that’s the way a lot of girls feel and I have to be honest, that attitude rubs off on me too from time to time.

But since when do we need paint on our face to feel beautiful?

I know, who am I to talk - I have a bloody beauty blog where I actually talk about that “paint” just as seriously as if it was world’s politics. I know it’s not, trust me.

In fact, one of the reasons I wanted to make this post was to explain what make-up is for me and how it fits into my life philosophy.

I have always been involved in art in one way or another: I dance, I sing, I draw and even have 3 years of art history behind my belt. I was always striving for beauty in all its forms so it was only logical that about 6 years ago I fell in love with make-up. For me, its FUN. It’s ART. It is something I genuinely enjoy to learn about and play around with.

Absolutely nobody NEEDS make-up. Sure, we all have those days when there is like a zillion breakouts and the dark circles are darker than the black hole so we pop on a little concealer (or a lot) just to get out the door. But the truth is that we are all people, beautiful with all our imperfections and accepting that is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Make-up shouldn’t be a mask you HAVE TO put on every day just to feel like yourself.

Live, love, kiss and laugh. Play with make-up and use it to express yourself. Show off your best features. Take care of yourself and accept the changes your face and body go through. Know the REAL YOU and never let go of her.

(This last paragraph is more a message to myself than anybody else)

Love,
Jane
