SKINCARE FOR MEN: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Disclamer: this post was made for men who don’t feel quite sure about what to do with their face. I’ve whooped up a simple routine for everyday and gave different price options for every budget. Girls, if you are reading this and know somebody who needs a little bit of help, feel free to share :) This post was not sponsored.

Right, let’s start with a very simple questionnaire:

Do you often feel lost in the world of endless shelves with beauty products?
Do you feel like your skin could look better if you had a set routine for everyday with products that actually work for your skin?
Does your skin often get irritated and uncomfortably dry?
Does your skin often get excessively oily?
Do you steal your girlfriend’s/wife’s/partner’s cream from time to time?

If you answered YES to 3 or more questions, it’s time we had a talk.

Even though shelves of almost every beauty store have dozens of products “FOR MEN” it doesn't necessarily mean that that is your best option. The whole concept of male and female skin needing different care is mostly a product of marketing and has nothing to do with real life. I personally find most of those products too harsh and heavily scented which usually makes dry skin dryer and oily skin oilier.
Another point I wanted to make before we dive into the world of toners and moisturisers is that your skin care doesn’t have to be something you secretly hate and spend ages on. I get it, you are busy. What I want you to do is spend 5 minutes every morning and evening TAKING CARE of yourself. Loving yourself and your skin. I promise, the results won’t be only physical but mental too.

MORNING ROUTINE

1) CLEANSE
Cleansing is essential for healthy skin. During the night your skin works hard and goes through countless metabolic processes leaving the residue on its surface. It’s also a great way to wake yourself up and prepare the skin for shaving. What I suggest is using a cleanser of your choice with a konjac sponge - vegetable fibres of a tree from Asia baked into a sponge that cleanses the skin without stripping it off its natural protection. That will give you an excellent exfoliation, battle wrinkles, acne and ingrown hairs.
How to: just wet the sponge, put some cleanser on it, massage face and neck (!) for a minute, wash the foam off with water. Wash the sponge under running water and hang it somewhere to dry.

2) SHAVE
I am not going to lie, there is not much I know about shaving one’s face. Just make sure your razor is clean and sharp.

3) TONE
I am 99% sure you are confused by what toning is and why you need it. Basically, whenever you wash your face or shave it or both, your natural PH balance gets disrupted which leaves it more vulnerable to the environment and makes the skin’s job a little bit harder. Toning your face with an alcohol-free toner after a nice clean shave will feel amazing, I promise. No stinging involved.
How to: put some toner on a cotton pad and gently apply to face and neck.

4) MOISTURISE WITH SPF
This is the most important step! A moisturiser replenishes the skin and gives it a little bit of help with fighting its everyday battles. Your morning time moisturiser HAS TO HAVE SPF and it doesn't matter whether you live in England or California. If you can’t see the sun it doesn’t mean the harmful rays are not getting through and they are the main reason of aging and skin cancer.
How to: put a little bit on the palm of your hand, rub it in and gently apply to face and neck without pulling the skin.

EVENING ROUTINE

1) CLEANSE
Use the same cleanser you use in the morning just leave the konjac sponge out - over exfoliating can get harmful.
How to: put some cleanser on the palm of your hand, rub it in and wash face and neck area.

2) TONE
Just do the same thing you do in the morning.

3) MOISTURISE WITHOUT SPF
Applying a rich moisturiser before going to sleep ensures supple and glowing skin in the morning. And it goes without saying that SPF is unnecessary at night time.
How to: put a little bit on the palm of your hand, rub it in and gently apply to face and neck without pulling the skin.

THAT’S IT!
